Gas warning from carbon monoxide victims

Gas detection equipment could be vital in protecting employees and family members from harmful fumes - a fact well known to one family from Bolton who were lucky to survive carbon monoxide poisoning.

A family from Yorkshire who were victims of carbon monoxide poisoning have paid tribute to their gas detection equipment, claiming it was the difference between life and death.

Jenna Thistlewaite and her partner Gary Simpson live with their children Isaac, 4, and Ava, 1, in Egerton, near Bolton.

They were evacuated from their home last Sunday (November 4th) after it was discovered their gas boiler was leaking - causing them to require treatment for toxic gas inhalation.

Cake decorator Miss Thistlewaite told the Bolton News that she felt lucky to be alive.

"The carbon monoxide detector almost definitely saved our lives. Everyone should have one like they do smoke alarms," she said.

"People should go to their doctor if they are worried about their symptoms. And keep going back if they need to."

With the danger now gone, the family have returned to their home, having spent four days with Mr Simpson's family.

One of the reasons carbon monoxide can be so dangerous is that it is hard to spot - as a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas, gas detection solutions are the only reliable way of checking for fumes.

Symptoms include nausea, headaches, fatigue and lethargy, with disorientation and upset stomachs also common.

In other news, BBC News recently reported that a number of homes had to be evacuated after a car crashed into a pub in Milinthorpe, Cumbria, which caused a gas leak.
