Shaun Ellis could see his wolf research centre in Combe Martin closed down after retrospective planning permission was denied on the grounds of noise pollution.

Noise pollution was a contributing factor in the decision to deny retrospective planning permission to Shaun Ellis' wolf research centre in Combe Martin - a move that could see the site closed.

According to the North Devon Journal, the facility - run by the TV personality also known as The Wolfman - could be shut down after North Devon Council refused the permit on October 30th.

Despite the centre being set up more than a year ago, an application was not submitted until April and Mr Ellis could now have to remove the facilities from Combe Martin Wildlife Park.

These include fencing, wolf enclosures, a tipi and engineering works, as well as the wolves themselves.

The news provider reported that the reasons for refusal also included the fact that the site is within an area of outstanding natural beauty and the increased risk of a traffic collision due to inadequate visibility in the turn-in.

With caravan and camping facilities already at the site and local housing not far off, council members were concerned about the noise levels from the wolves' howling at night.

Furthermore, there were fears over the proximity of the enclosure to a stream which the local council has been working hard to clean up in recent times.

In other news, the Hackney Gazette recently reported that the Courtyard Theatre in Hoxton is having to install soundproofing after noise monitoring equipment showed there was a case for closing the venue due to noise pollution complaints.
