MSA BD Mini

MSA BD Mini, Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus

The BD Mini from MSA, features a redesigned, maintenance-friendly pressure reducer and is especially suited for short duration work in confined spaces  It allows its wearer to be supplied with air for the approach as well as for the return.
Features of the BD mini include the compact size and versatile design which permit the use of various carrying modes.  This means the apparatus is ideal for sites that can only be reached through narrow entry openings for work in confined spaces.

Alternatively, the BD mini can be carried on a person's back like a large compressed air breathing apparatus for applications such as brief explorations or tours. The BD Mini can also be connected to a stationary air source with a coupling for compressed airline breathing apparatus which is available as an accessory.

Design

The BD Mini can be operated as a normal pressure or positive pressure apparatus, depending on the lung governed demand valve used.  The carrying plate is the base of the device and an adjustable harness allows the device to be easily used.  Slots provided in the carrying plate allow the hip belt and shoulder strap, without the use of any special tools.  This is a user-friendly method which allows the carrying mode to be adapted to individual requirements.

The hip belt and shoulder strap are already adjusted for the back carrying mode and the carrying plate is also provided with several slots of varying dimensions, permitting the trouble-free mounting of the pressure reducer.  This means the pressure reducer can always be placed in the optimum position, regardless of the carrying mode selected by the operator.

 Function

The pressure reducer is designed to be connected to 200 or 300 bar compressed air cylinders.  The warning signal at the pressure reducer is high pressure controlled and medium pressure dosed.  This means a loud, constant signal sounds during the total alarm, which has the advantage of the warning device functions injector-less (input of ambient air is not required to discharge the warning signal).
The pressure gauge line has a large luminescent and pivotable pressure gauge on the pressure reducer, as well as the medium pressure line to connect the lung goverened demand valve.

A cylinder retaining strap can be fastened onto the carrying plate with a cylinder retaining strap.  The use of different sized cylinders is varied due to the the strap's universal length.  The swift and easy exchange of cylinders is permitted through a handy, large tightener.
