MSA SavOxCap 60 - Hooded Oxygen Self Rescuer
The SavOxCap 60 is from the MSA SavOx range of oxygen self-rescuers. This particular self-rescuer comes with a hood and integrated half mask and will provide you with breathing air for more than 60 minutes.
One of the great advantages of a KO2 rescuer is you will be provided with breathing air, independent of the ambient air. It’s ideal for protection in situations such as gas outbursts, fires or explosions and prevents inhalation of toxic gases or vapours. It can also be used in oxygen deficient environments.
The SavOx Cap 60 is also know as a closed-circuit self-rescuer and goes through a process of generating oxygen from potassium hyperoxide (KO2). The KO2 reacts instinctively with the moisture and carbon dioxide in exhaled air and releases additional oxygen than what is consumed.
The rate of oxygen generated and the breathing resistance will be dependant on the workflow. Heavy work loads will mean more oxygen is generated whereas reduced work loads will decrease the oxygen generation. Both of these correspond to the operating time of the self-rescuer.
