Gas Detection

GasAlert Quattro from BW Technologies - Video Demo and Review

Multi-gas detectors, by their very nature, are bigger and beefier than their smaller single-gas siblings. But we still expect them to be feature-packed, rugged and absolutely dependable.

In this guide from Frontline Safety, we'll be looking at the GasAlert Quattro from BW Technologies to see whether it fits the bill.

GasAlert Quattro - What Are the Features?

To start with, we recommend you take a few minutes to watch our exclusive overview video on Frontline Safety TV in which you'll see BW GasAlert Quattro "in the hand".

As the name suggests, the BW GasAlert Quattro SureCell sensors will detect four gases:

  • H2S
  • CO
  • O2
  • LEL

On top of this if features enhanced resistance to common industrial cross sensitive gases such as methanol and ethanol (CO and H2S sensors).

Detection is displayed to the wearer via the large, back-lit LED screen. A graphical interface shows the four gases and the levels detected. This gives you a continuous visual confirmation that the detector is operational via the "Intelliflash" which, simply, is a graphical "beating heart", showing you that the monitor is at work.

In use, the BW GasAlert Quattro is ideal for a variety of industrial applications, such as confined space entry, making it a great compliance monitor, being ATEX approved.

And it's tough as well as smart, rated IP66/67 meaning it's protected against dust and water ingress, with the housing being concussion-proof. This is ideal for the typical work environment and it gives you some peace of mind that the unit can take a knock, particularly when you're in confined spaces. And the detector can be worn on your person via the strong alligator clip.

GasAlert Quattro - What Are the Benefits?

Everything about the BW GasAlert Quattro indicates that its been designed with you - the user - in mind. From the above mentioned display, to the alarms, everything is about keeping you safe from the four gases it'll detect.

On the front of the unit there's one button via which you turn the unit on or off. That's it. It's deliberately simple to use.

Once you've turned it on it'll run through a self-test of the sensors, battery integrity, circuit integrity and the alarms.

The alarms are purposefully load and clear, from the 6 flashing LEDs, to the 95dB audible alarm. And it'll also vibrate. All of this is designed to keep the wearer - and those around him/her - safe, especially if you're working in busy or noisy environments.

If gas is detected, the unit will log all of the relevant data such as time and quantities, which can then be downloaded via IR link for use in any subsequent investigation.

As with all the other operations of the BW GasAlert Quattro calibration is both simple and automatic, and its compatible with BW's MicroDock II test and calibration station.
