Overview of the BM25 Area Detector from Teledyne Oldham

The BM25 from Teledyne/Oldham is an area monitor that can simultaneously detect up to 5 gases. The BM25 gas detector is comparable to a fixed gas detection system. It is thus well-suited for use in demanding situations and applications such as team protection, area surveillance, and temporary construction sites. The feet make it suitable for use on any level surface as it is built to stand up. All of the gases being measured will be shown at the same time on the screen.

Wireless Connectivity

The BM25's optional radio connectivity allows several units to talk to one another via a network or to transmit data wirelessly to a controller.

The BM25 employs a MESH network architecture for its network connectivity. A mesh network is a decentralised network in which nodes connect to other nodes directly. As a result, each node is capable of acting as a receiver, transmitter, and intermediary for data. This avoids the need for the network to have any potentially vulnerable nodes. When a node fails, traffic is redirected around it.

The transmitted power is less than 100 mW and the frequency used is 2.4 GHz for wireless communication. The maximum line-of-sight distance for two communicating devices is 0.6 miles.

The advantages of a mesh topology are its ease of deployment, high degree of scalability in terms of coverage area and fault tolerance, and low probability of collision. The time and money required to set up and maintain networks are drastically reduced. These strategies mimic the Internet's structure while enhancing wireless performance.
