The Crowcon T4X Multi Gas Detector - Everything You Need to Know

Introducing the Crowcon T4X multigas detector, the new and improved Crowcon T4 comes equipped with an extensive amount of sensor capabilities compared to the original T4 to lower ownership and calibration costs over its lifetime. Keep reading this blog to find out all the ground-breaking sensor technology the T4X offers and its other great features.

Sensor Technologies

Crowcon has designed and manufactured the Crowcon T4X with cost-effective yet game-changing sensor capabilities that change the traditional way that sensors in gas detectors work.

MPS Sensors

MPS stands for molecular property spectrometer and is present in the flammable (LEL) sensor ports of the Crowcon. The technology within the MPS Sensors is unique to standard sensors as they do not cause a chemical reaction, use light in the interrogation or measurement, and do not use a physical reference sensor. This ground-breaking sensor technology creates many benefits for users of the MPS sensor monitors.

The most impressive benefit of the MPS sensor is that it can detect over 15 flammable gases, all from one single sensor. Additionally, unlike traditional sensors, the MPS sensor is poison resistant, meaning that chemicals won't damage the sensors. They also prevent as many false alarms as other sensors and reduce masked alarms as they can accurately detect blended combustibles (more than one single).

Additionally, Crowcon MPS sensors do not need to be re-calibrated within the first five years of the sensor life as the technology in the sensors calibrates themselves every 2 seconds. This can save users the high financial cost of regular calibrations and prevent frequent monitoring maintenance and calibration interruption. However, it may be in some companies' procedures manuals to do so. Therefore, although Crowcon MPS sensors do not need to be calibrated within five years, company policy regarding gas monitoring should be adhered to.

Long Life Oxygen (O2) Sensors

Alongside MPS sensors in the flammable sensor slot, the Crowcon T4X also features a long-life oxygen sensor. Having a long-life sensor reduces sensor replacement and total ownership costs for the user, compared to the average 2-year sensor life of others. Not only does the user benefit from reduced sensor replacement cost and downtime, but the 5-year sensor also reduces the environmental impact of sensor replacement waste, improving the company's environmental responsibility. Users also have complete protection with their monitor as the long-life o2 sensors come with an industry-leading 5-year warranty.

Dual Toxic Sensors

As well as MPS and Long-Life sensor technology, the T4X utilises a 3-year dual toxic sensor for carbon monoxide (CO) and Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S). A dual toxic sensor in the T4 gives users the same performance as individual sensors but reduces the cost of replacing two over three years.

The Crowcon MPS and Long Life Oxygen Sensors are available in both the Crowcon T4X Multigas and Gasman Single Gas Detector ranges.

User friendly

The Crowcon T4X comes complete with a highly user-friendly user interface and mode of operation. With single-button navigation, users can navigate various menus and view real-time gas readings on the monitor's default operation screen. The screen is lit by a front-mounted, backlit LED display that can be flipped 180 degrees to make it easy for users to view the screen while the monitor is being used.

The outerwear of the monitor has an ingress protection rating of IP65 and IP67; this ensures that the T4X can withstand water and dust. As well as the durable outerwear protection, the T4X has been drop tested from 4 meters onto concrete, ensuring it won't break from moderate falls from height.

The alarm system within the Crowcon T4X has a noise level of 95dB and uses distinctive tones that can be personalised to indicate what kind of hazard is present. The triple alarm system also features a vibrating alarm, a visual alarm that uses dual red and blue colours to show when a gas hazard is present.

Connected Gas Detection

The T4X is compatible with Crowcon's connected platform – Crowcon Connect, the cloud-connected safety and compliance solution that provides fleet managers with data to help manage and inform workers to improve safety on site.

Frontline Safety recommends The Crowcon T4X multigas monitor to anyone that works in a confined space application type, that requires a personal gas monitor to monitor oxygen levels. The Crowcon T4X can detect more than 15 flammable gases (LEL) at once as well as O2, H2S and CO, making it the perfect monitor with impressive sensor technologies that not only help save lives but costs as well.
